Chaleur Regional Service Commission ("we", "our", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This statement explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to this website and to any information you provide to us.
1. Information we collect
When you submit our contact form, we collect the contact details you provide (your name and email address) and the subject and contents of your message, so we can respond to your inquiry.
When you submit an event through our event submission form, we collect:
- Your details as the submitter: your name and email address, so we can follow up about your submission and send you a confirmation.
- The event details: the title, description, dates, times, location, categories and image you provide, as well as the event's contact email, phone number and website or social media links. Once approved, this information may be published on our website.
When you subscribe to our newsletter or request our travel guide, we collect your email address, your name (for guide requests), your postal code and whether you want to receive our newsletter.
When you visit, we also collect limited technical information automatically:
- Usage and technical data: information such as your approximate location, browser type, device type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at our site. This is collected through Google Analytics, and only if you accept analytics cookies (see the Cookies section below).
- Advertising data: if you accept marketing cookies, the Meta pixel and any campaign tools we load through Google Tag Manager record the pages you visit on our site so we can measure our advertising campaigns.
- Your preferences: your language choice, the places and stories you save as favourites, and your cookie-consent selections, so the site can remember them on your next visit.
2. Why we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Respond to your inquiry and communicate with you about your request.
- Review the events you submit, contact you about them if needed, and publish approved events on our website.
- Send you our travel guide and, if you subscribe, our newsletter, and understand where our visitors come from (postal code). You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in each email.
- Understand how visitors use this website so we can improve its content, navigation, and performance (through Google Analytics).
- Measure the performance of our advertising campaigns (through the Meta pixel and campaign tools loaded through Google Tag Manager), only if you accept marketing cookies.
- Remember your language, saved favourites and cookie-consent preferences.
- Maintain the security and proper operation of this website.
- Meet our obligations under applicable privacy legislation, including New Brunswick's Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RTIPPA) and any other privacy laws that apply to visitors from other jurisdictions.
3. Consent
By providing your information to Chaleur Tourism, you consent to its collection and use for the purposes above. Where the law requires explicit, written, or separate consent for a specific use, we will ask for it. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting our Privacy Officer (section 8). Withdrawing consent may limit our ability to deliver the services you have asked for.
4. Disclosure to third parties
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information only:
- With Google Analytics, which processes technical data to help us understand website traffic and usage patterns, and only if you accept analytics cookies. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- With Meta (Facebook and Instagram), through the Meta pixel, but only if you accept marketing cookies. This helps us measure our campaigns. Meta handles this data under its own privacy policy.
- With the advertising and campaign-measurement platforms whose tools we load through Google Tag Manager for specific campaigns, but only if you accept marketing cookies. Each platform handles data under its own privacy policy.
- With Google reCAPTCHA, which analyzes certain technical data (such as your IP address and how you interact with the page) when you use our forms, to protect them from spam and abuse.
- With Google Maps, when a map is displayed on a place or package page.
- With YouTube (Google), when you play a video embedded on our website.
- With the provider that delivers our emails, including contact form messages, event submission confirmations, travel guides and newsletters, which accesses your information only as needed to deliver that service and is bound by appropriate confidentiality terms.
- With the service provider that hosts this website, which accesses information only as needed to operate and maintain the site and is bound by appropriate confidentiality terms.
- Where required or permitted by law, including in response to a lawful request from a public authority.
This website links to external sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information. We encourage you to review their policies.
5. Where your information is stored
Your information is stored in Canada whenever possible. Some service providers may process limited technical information (for example, web analytics) outside Canada. Where this happens, the information is subject to the laws of the country where it is processed, including lawful access by authorities in that country.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
This website uses cookies and similar technologies. A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by your browser. We group cookies into three categories:
- Necessary cookies are required for the site to work, for example to remember your language choice, your saved favourite places and stories, and your consent preferences. Google reCAPTCHA, which protects our forms from spam and abuse, is also included in this category. These are always on and cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. We use Google Analytics 4, which does not log or store IP addresses. These cookies are off by default.
- Marketing cookies are used to measure the performance of our advertising campaigns, through the Meta pixel (Facebook and Instagram) and campaign tools loaded through Google Tag Manager. These cookies are off by default.
Analytics and marketing cookies are loaded only after you accept them. Until you make a choice, only necessary cookies run, and Google Consent Mode keeps Google's advertising and analytics storage turned off.
You can change your choices at any time by clicking Cookie preferences in the footer. Clearing your cookies will reset your preferences and the consent banner will appear again on your next visit.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block necessary cookies, some features of the site, such as saved favourites, may not work.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this statement and to meet any record retention obligations that apply to us. Records are retained for seven (7) years, after which they are destroyed or anonymized in a secure manner. Website analytics data is retained for fourteen (14) months.
8. Your rights and our Privacy Officer

- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
